A present from the Ajara Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport to the theatrical world 

On 7-20, 2019 Batumi is hosting a grand A class International Theatre Festival. 

The idea of founding a large-scale international Theatre Festival in Batumi belongs to the artistic director of the Batumi Ilia Chavchavadze State Drama Theater Andro Enukidze and his foreign friends. The initiative has been supported by the Ajara Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and the first international theatre festival – BATUMI international. 

The work on the implementation of the idea has been conducted for several years already and by the late December, it will turn into a significant theatrical platform. 

The goals of the festival are: 

• To locate Batumi on the theatrical map of the world as a city of rich theatrical tradition; raise awareness of the Ajara region in Europe and throughout the world; 
• To acquaint the Georgian public with the best leading theatre companies as well as the news and trends of the theatrical art worldwide; 
• To share experience and enhance finding partnership for coproduction; 
• To promote contemporary theatrical forms in Ajara, raise qualification of the creative society in the region of Ajara; 

The Festival has the international Board of Directors/Experts including producers, theatre critics and festival directors of world acclaim: 

• Roman Dolzhansky (Israel) 
• Dariush Kosinski (Poland) 
• Jacek Glomb (Poland) 
• Asta Kazlauskiene (Lithuania) 
• Lucian Baleanu (Romania) 
• Andro Enukidze (Chairman, Georgia) 

Outstanding, leading theatre companies and troupes from Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Ukraine are participating in the First Batumi International Festival. They have been selected by the international Board of Directors/Experts. 

The festival performances will be hosted by the recently renovated Batumi Theatre, which meets the requirements of all the technical parameters.
