The government of Ajara Autonomous Republic has additionally allotted 244 244 Gel in the budget for the Batumi Ilia Chavchavadze State Professional Drama Theatre, to create an alternative theatrical space on the spot of the former carpentry of the theatre (Melashvili Street). The project of the building was prepared by Levan Imedadze, the construction works are conducted by “GTI”, Ltd. 

At present the construction works implied by the project are being conducted, which are due to finish in April this year.

The new theatrical space will enable the theatre company to stage experimental performances and attract young stage-directors that will enhance professional mastering of young creators. The experimental space will be a good means to attract the audience of from different social strata as well as the youth. Until the completion of the rehabilitation works of the main theatre, the Batumi Ilia Chavchavadze State Professional Drama Theatre will continue the basic creative activities in the new theatrical space.
