Statistical outcomes of the research by the Georgian Theatre Research Center of Ilia State University 

The Georgian Theatre Research Center has published the results of the statistical research of the Georgian Theatre activities for 2015. The research has used the statistic data of 40 out of 45 active theatres in Georgia. The research conducted by the Georgian Theatre Research Centex is based on the statistical research methods.

Among the important events of the Georgian Theatre activities for 2015, the research mentions the opening of the “New Stage” at Batumi Ilia Chavchavadze State Professional Drama Theatre.

Statistical data of 2015 for the Batumi drama theatre has considerably improved compared to the previous years, which was reflected in the results of the survey. During the year, by the number of premieres, Batumi drama theatre is on the third place among the regions (total eight new plays were performed); according to the percentage of theatre workload (attendance of the audience), Batumi drama theatre is on the first place among the regions and on the third place throughout Georgia (83.55% of the audience capacity). By the number of the invited foreign stage-directors, Batumi theatre is on the third position. 

For the second time already, together with the quantitative indices, the Georgian Theatre Research Center has published the ratings of the best performances, directors, actors (including young actors), stage designers and choreographers, based only on artistic indices. Ratings were made up by the members of international association of theatre critics – theatre experts and independent critics.  

The best music in the performance “The Night Porter” – Tengiz Shamiladze (the Head of the Musical part of the Drama Theatre) was recognized among the four best music designs. Likewise, Marine Burduli, the actress of the Batumi drama theatre, was recognized among the four best young actresses (Gogol’s “Marriage”). 

The research was conducted by the Georgian Theater Research Center in collaboration with the International Theatre Critics Association.
