Jane Martin’s play – “Keely and Du” – chosen by Keti Dolidze for staging on the “New Stage” in Batumi, raises many painful and thought-provoking questions before the reader or viewer: forgiveness or resentment? Give birth to life or abort a foetus of an abuser? Religious fanaticism or human tolerance? . . .
Keely does not want to bear a child from a rapist. However, Du is forcing her to do it, kidnapping and handcuffing her to bed in order to preserve a child, avoid sin and give birth to life. . .
What is the end of the dramatic story? What differentiates or connects these two women of different ages – Keely and Du? . . .
