Synopsis:
At the Batumi Drama Theatre, director Giorgi Kashia continues his engagement with classical repertoire, presenting his second production within a short span of time. His previous work was an adaptation of David Kldiashvili’s Darispan’s Trouble, while his latest staging brings Nikolai Gogol’s The Government Inspector to the stage in a new interpretation.
It is well known that Gogol borrowed the plot of the play from Alexander Pushkin. It is a rare and fascinating phenomenon when a single story inspires two distinguished artistic minds, each shaping it into an independent and accomplished work.
"The Government Inspector," a dramatic masterpiece that exposes the ways of Russian society and, in its finale, addresses an eternal, universal theme. In the end, the true inspector inevitably arrives, like judgment itself, the unquestionable arbiter of our existence...
